Matilde Alessandra was born in Venice and lived and worked in New York for years. Graduated in Theater Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, she began her artistic career in London as a scenographer and then she moved permanently to New York in the early nineties. Here she began to experiment with light, placing fluorescent tubes under painted canvases and behind plastic panels. Matilde Alessandra’s work regards light as an object, not as a subject. Sculptures, bright paintings, lamps and each of her works carries inside a strong communicative power, where light interacts with the shapes and the materials used.
